We are well into fall with November right around the corner. However, it is only just beginning to feel like fall in the desert. We are finally out of the 90’s. This evening was a nippy 69 degrees. So I’ve only only just begun considering fall activities and all things pumpkin.
When highs are still in the 80’s, it is hard to feel fall the same way I did growing up in the Midwest. The longer I have lived in the desert, the more I have missed all things fall…pretty leaves, sweaters, bonfires, hay rides, etc. It takes extra effort to create a similar autumn atmosphere in weather most people would consider summer.
In brainstorming all the ways I could celebrate fall, the 70 Days of Fall list came together. I find in the busyness of life, it is easy to keep plugging away at the day-to-day without taking time to remember or enjoy the reason for the season…whatever season that may be.
I created a personal challenge to try to check off as many items from the list as I can by Thanskgiving. I am trying to complete at least several items a week. This weekend I tried a pumpkin custard recipe that I bombed but I think I can still recover.
I also made a goal to focus daily on an attitude of gratitude and downloaded the ebook “Words of Thanksgiving” by Nancy Streza for a daily reading. I have been enjoying it so far and recommend it if you are interested in doing something similar.
Another holiday read I recommend is “Putting God Back in the Holidays” by Bill Thrasher. The book provides ideas for every holiday, including Thankgiving and Christmas. Amazon has the ebook on sale for $2.99 at the time this article was written.
I really hope you enjoy my 70 Days of Fall List and that you are able to create the feeling of fall as well as an attitude of gratitude. I’d love to hear how you celebrate and cultivate a mindset of Thanksgiving.
